June 15, 2022 - Clear medium light red with some brown. Very nice burgundy funk, plums, forest floor and black cherry. Dry delicious earthy black cherry flavours and a long dry tannic finish.

At peak but will be great for at least another 10 years.

October 19, 2021 - Love this. Exotic nose of cinnamon, dirty socks and pumpkin pie. Again full palate while showing transparency and elegance. Lots of life ahead. Top notch. (95)

    October 16, 2021 - Drunk alongside the 78 and 82 Asili
Decanted for 5 hours earlier in the day.

An expectedly darker and more brooding nose. It's richer, more serious and youthful still. Deeper and darker fruit on the palate, with more intensity without losing any focus. This has everything the other two wines have, but isn't showing it all yet. Darker cherry fruit, balsam, tar, roses and iron. Power painted with a finely detailed brush. Structured and still firm (for Asili), this is on the ascent still. Quite long and likely the best wine of the three, but showing less of its potential than the 82 which was absolutely in the slot tonight. Terrific, and I don't mean to convey this isn't wonderful, as it is already drinking extremely well now, but I think its best days (at least for my palate) are ahead. 95+

April 25, 2021 - Not in the league of a the 89' Moccagatta, but enjoyable. Classic Nebbiolo notes, just no fireworks. Maybe it was a poorly stored bottle. I have another, so fingers crossed. Sourced both through Chambers.

October 30, 2020 - The '89 Asili is a pretty wine that's now at a good level of maturity. On the nose, I found dried roses, spices, sweet dark red cherry fruit, tar, and earth. The aromatics were classic aged Nebbiolo, albeit a bit on the rustic side. On the palate, I found spicy and sweet dark red fruit, dried floral tones, and earth, leading into a finish heavy on licorice and spice tones and dried red fruit. The wine was lively with medium+ acidity and medium-bodied in texture. The tannins are close but have yet to fully integrate, with some drying tannin still appearing in the mid palate and towards the finish, and the tannin quality is a bit rustic compared to that in the wines the Produttori is making today.

The '89 Asili is a very enjoyable wine, although clearly a product of a different, more rustic era.
