May 21, 2021 - Birthday event 2021 (My House): I've said it before and I will say it again, I do not understand why Port gets all the love, I will take a great bottle of Banyuls over it every time. The purity of the fruit on this 45 year old wine is amazing. Still taste like a baby, would likely have lived on another 20+ years. Slight caramel aromas, but really fresh red fruit mixed in with date and fig aromas. Can't even notice the alcohol, just adds to the body. An amazing dessert wine

April 21, 2020 - Late decision to open this bottle.
It showed quite a bit of sediment, not particularly well settled prior to decanting.
The wine evolved substantially over several hours moving from fruit dominated to cacao and baking spice dominated wine. The alcohol is not very noticeable and the wine is very well balanced.
Rich mouthfeel but lighter than a vintage Port, some aspects of oxidation but the wine is now 44 years old. Good length and complexity. A truly unique wine.

February 15, 2015 - Sunday Night Dinner (Eric & Megan's - Chicago): I've never been overly fond of Banyuls, but this was pretty good. Had a strong mineral, fig, and plum tone throughout the palate. Definitely the most integrated Banyuls I've had, and definitely the oldest. Still not sure whether this is my style of wine or not.

December 8, 2009 - wineflock-2004 Piedmont (The Matasars, Northbrook Il): nose: excellent depth with a real rich nose of sour cherries, sweet chocolate, raisins, and a good bit of sour fruits. Very pungent and there is a good richness to it, but its tempered some with the age

taste: really good medium feel with tasty tones of sour cherries, cranberries, sour red fruits, sweet tones of chocolate and some bits of raisins

overall: a real treat. I haven't had much banyuls and was really intrigued by it. This was at the end of the night, so my notes aren't as on point as my other ones are. This has a good life ahead of it still, but also showed off the age in the glass as it had a tawny color to it that is see through

October 24, 2008 - No formal notes. Took awhile to open. Then rich, complex and long. Not sure it's worth the tariff though.
