August 7, 2021 - Dark inky purple-black color to the edge.
Black cassis, graphite, mocha, sweet spicy.
Seriously full bodied, extremely concentrated, long finish with great grip.

July 7, 2021 - 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape 99/100 point wine taste-off (and a couple of pirate Rhone wines): Vastly improved from the 2003 (467), this 2005 (580) showed a decent resume of red fruit and earth in a friendly package. Still, this carried flavors familiar to the 2003, including sherry, caramel, leather, and citrus rind. This was not totally obliterated the way the 2003 was, but it seemed much more advanced than it should be for its age. The 2005 reminds me of an ok pepperoni pizza wine that some guy named Mario might pull from the back of a warm shelf next to the cash register and slide you over a couple of heavy crystal highball glasses to drink it out of.

November 3, 2020 - Wow wine! Beautifully integrated. Bigger wine than 2007 XXL despite 2 extra years. Needs another 5-10 years to get to the 100 pts.

August 2, 2017 - Some strange notes on this wine. On opening it is very accessable before shutting down pretty hard. It clearly needs 10++yrs. BUT (a) there is absolutely no alcohol/heat showing, (b) this has massive fruit density, (c) this could be one of the finest pure grenache wines I have enjoyed in the last couple of years. The length was already extra-ordinary with 45sec mocha - a VERY good sign. Opened from my cellar for friends who didn't appreciate the potential - next bottles in a decade with some CdP experts methinks! 96pts now but don't open until at least 2030 (when I would expect it to be 98-100pts). Drink 2030-2050

July 15, 2017 - This suffered next to the 03 inspiration as it was only opened just before serving. A somewhat impenetrable wall of compact, dark fruit and alcohol at the moment. Needs a lot of time, at least a decade or so but probably has the class to be something really special in 20 years time.
