November 17, 2017 - Still drinking remarkably well, with lean dark fruit. Smooth, with a nice finish.

August 3, 2014 - The WA review is really ringing true now. Dark plum, cherry and chocolate flavors, with some earth and spice. Well balanced, smooth.

April 19, 2013 - Firm tannins surround sour cherry, earth and tobacco flavors. Paired with a beef stew and worked nicely.

October 31, 2010 - Very nice bottle, with elegant dark berry, tobacco, earth and mineral flavors.

May 13, 2010 - Really nice wine. A little hot, but otherwise it had a nice blackberry profile. Give it at least a 2 hour decant for full enjoyment.

New York Cork Report

  • By Lenn Thompson
    6/15/2009 (link) 3.5 out of 5 stars

(Shinn Estate Vineyards Merlot Nine Barrels North Fork Long Island) The nose is expressive, showing rich, intense blackberry and blueberry fruit with Thai basil, violet and subtle toasty vanilla accents. On the medium-bodied palate, the fruit is ripe, but restrained, with dark fruit flavors (blackberry, blueberry and a little plum) with more Thai basi/anise character along with sweet, minty herbs. The finish is medium-long with blueberries and a lightly earthy note at the very end. Ripe, well-incorporated tannins of medium intensity make this wine approachable today, but short-term (3-5 years) development is easy to predict.
