August 26, 2023 - David Bynum specializes in single vineyard expressions of Russian River Valley fruit since 1973 when it produced the region's first single vineyard pinot noir.

Decanted for about 30m. Passionfruit, baked apple, vanilla, warm butterery croissant, caramel, hint of backend bitterness.

June 23, 2023 - 14.5% alcohol; appears to have real cork, with a penetrating cork aroma of generic cherries and a touch of menthol; a solid medium-weight foil complements the unexpected non-composite cork; the label is unusually informative with information about the harvest, the clones, the (single) vineyard, soils, style, and the name of the winemaker; long legs, yellow-tinged onyx; nose of generic grapes, kiwi, gooseberries, spices such as cardamom, and again a trace of menthol; the wine was opened and tasted about 15 minutes later at about 12 degrees C; in this full-bodied wine, the tannins are muted, as is an elusive sweetness maybe derived from honeysuckle blossoms, a lingering fragrance of nearby cattleya orchids; the long finish threatens to develop into a slight bitterness but recovers at the end; malolactic secondary fermentation not much in evidence, maybe what one reviewer meant when he described the wine as lacking sufficient creaminess for his taste; the wine's rather unassertive character means it can pair with almost anything, although you might want to try seafood such as scallops, prawns, or lobster first; if you have this wine in your cellar, consider holding on to it for a couple of more years

March 19, 2023 - This was more medium bodied with medium acidity. I tasted some peaches, lemon, and sour apples, overall it was not as creamy as I prefer my whites. However with some strong cheese and dry meats this might be a good compliment. Will not add to my cellar, but will try again.

October 12, 2022 - Retail $28. Under DIAM3. Davis Bynum, it seems, has always been a top producer of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Sonoma County, and when Rodney Strong acquired the brand, the quality perhaps even improved and the wines became more affordable. This is a case in point. This wine, which is usually on the shelves at or below $25, punches well above that pricepoint. Pale straw in the glass with great tree and citrus fruit, honeysuckle, and white peach. The oak treatment is also noticeable, but it blends in well with the other components. The palate is quite lovely: harmonious, balanced, bold but refined, this is an outstanding Chardonnay.
