Community Tasting Notes 4

  • MattMauldin Likes this wine: 94 points

May 11, 2024 - Deep, opaque garnet with bright slightly clearing edges. The aromatics pop with notes of black cherry & plum, smoked paprika, lavender bloom, cracked pepper, fresh rosemary and Earl Grey tea. Cool-toned black and red fruit on the palate, blackberry and cherry, perfectly ripe with terrific freshness, seamless and precise secondary black tea, licorice, clove, violets and melted stone. Medium to full in body, refined and rich, with elegant polish, lifting acidity, silky broad-grained tannins and a long ponderous finish of black fruit zest and mineral. Terrific balance of Paso exuberance and richness and finesse and energy. Impressive.

May 23, 2023 - This wine is finally starting to come around. The 2017 was much better early on, and I had been disappointed with previous openings of the 2018, but it’s starting to shine. Opened for 45 minutes before diving in.

February 4, 2023 - Way, way too bretty.

We had this at the winery and enjoyed it tremendously. Fast forward to this bottle it’s not terrible, but far too bretty. Likely just an off bottle.

December 12, 2021 - Villa Creek visit: Shows black raspberry & cherry, wild herbs, savory spices and limestone minerality. Succulent and savory on the palate, with nice depth and concentration yet with freshness to the fruit. Firm, fleshy tannins and good finishing depth.
