November 25, 2023 - Bucket List tasting at Wijnkoperij Okhuysen: Orange brown but the color still has surprising intensity.
Aroma's of clove, wet leaves, rooibos tea, metal. Some umami, but not overwhelmingly so.
The wine has a slender posture with ample acidity and fine tannins. There's quite a bit of persistence on the palate. The consistency of the drive is what surprised me most and earns it some points.
However, this one is clearly in its twilight years, as flavors of iron/rust/blood are becoming quite prominent.
The wine began to fade after a few minutes in the glass. -

July 7, 2009 - This was a surprisingly nice bottle. Not overly acidic as most wines are of the vintage. Light, floral, red fruits, some earth and leather, great minerality, delicate soft texture of an old burg. Definitely ready to be drunk.

November 11, 2008 - Wine dinner at Cafe Cortadito (NYC): Clear bright ruby red colour. The nose starts out funky and awkward, but with time most of that clears to show very nuanced aromas of leather, earth, truffles, smoke, red berries and sandalwood. Similarly complex and layered on the palate with an incredible range of flavours that I'm not even going to try and describe, a silken mouthfeel and tremendous clarity, finesse and elegance. Superb.

November 10, 2008 - Earthy, others got tinning fish.

November 10, 2008 - This bottle did not show as well as my first earlier this year. The nose starts of with strange canned fishy smell reminiscent of Thai fish sauce (nam pla), black olive tapenade and cherries. After that initial funk blows away a good half hour later, a much nicer bouquet of earthy mushrooms, damp leaves, strawberries and cigar box shows up. In the mouth, the strange funk is not manisfested but in its place a lovely acidity carries the complex and silky flavors of red fruit and earth to a seductive and long finish. Would have obviously benefited from previous air time.
