March 26, 2024 - First bottle from a half case purchased recently from a reputable Dutch merchant. Owned by the Bouygues family and made by the equipe from Château Montrose. Which has caused some furore. In conversion to organic farming. A blend of 50% Merlot, 44% Cabernet-Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot, 14.5% ABV. Decanted for three hours - it's modern in style but it clearly needs some oxygen to open up. It's a full-bodied, generous and polished, flavoursome wine in every respect. Ripe black Merlot fruit, cedar and tobacco, cassis leaf, savoury notes, cream. It needs drinking below room temperature to deliver freshness. Tannins are firm but impeccably managed. Finish is youthful and tight, with a note of liquorice. There is no great finesse here, but if it ages well, it may have 92 point potential.

February 27, 2024 - Chateau Montrose Tasting (Bentley Bar & Restaurant, Sydney): blackcurrant, plums, controlled oak, cream, sweet spice, an odd, slightly gamey almost nutty note here as well as a touch of menthol herbaceousness & rocky minerality. In the mouth it's juicy with the merlot more to the fore offering plums, that gamey nutty note is here as well, woody textured burr, blackcurrant shows on the finish with a little tarry liquorice. Hmm. Gary says it reminds him of the Te Mata Awatea but my recollections of that wine was it being more overtly green capsicum.

February 26, 2024 - This red wine boasts a vibrant, deep purple hue. Its aromatic profile is assertive, with a powerful bouquet bursting forth from the glass. Rich notes of red fruits intertwine with spicy undertones, creating a youthful and robust expression. On the palate, it delivers an explosive experience, characterized by its smooth yet potent nature, indicative of its youthful vigor and latent potential. Personally, I recommend allowing it to rest for 2 to 3 years to further develop, anticipating a more nuanced and mature iteration that still retains its inherent promise. While the presence of tannins adds structure, they do not overpower, leaving room for an intriguing evolution over the years. This wine promises to be a captivating journey worth following as it continues to evolve. 92-94

July 15, 2023 - Excellent value in this young bordeaux. After a 2 hr decant this was quite fruit-forward with a bit of spicy herbs and earthy notes. It finished with delicious tannins ober the 2 hours consumed. There is even greater potential here with 5-10 years of cellaring, I suspect, but it is quite delicious now.
