Community Tasting Notes 6

    August 25, 2009 - Unusual wine.

First night. Completely reduced. Stinky. Unpleasant. Had planned to serve it at a dinner party but kept it in the kittchen.

Second night. Starting to come around. Cherries, minerals but lots of acidity and some reduced aromas. Ok, but not great.

Third night. Mostly sour cherry on the nose. Deep aromatic and interesting. A good nose. Palate is much more expressive with cherry (not quite as sour as on the nose), minerals and a nice spark of chocolate. Very pleasnat wine now. 91-2 tonight but much less the previous two nights.

Suggests a keeper in the cellar for another couple of years.

April 5, 2009 - A classic example of Sonoma coast pinot -- fruit-forward and juicy, velvety mouthfeel, a hint of the earth in the fogbelt. We had with some excellent cheddar cheese and it was a good combination.

February 8, 2009 - Medium color; rich, complex fruit aromas with a touch of earth. On the palate: rich, forward fruit with velvety texture and smooth, lengthy finish; some acidity comes through. Drinking very well now but might benefit from another year or two of cellaring. A bit meaty at 14.5% alc.

January 25, 2009 - Opened to a little rotten egg on the nose and worried the bottle might be bad but one taste dispelled that fear. A very balanced fruit forward wine that went terrifically well with salmon. A delicate, full bodied pinot that is simply wonderful.

December 28, 2008 - Opened to a fragrant nose of red fruit and spice. This wine has tremenxous balance and a very smooth silky texture. It seems to be in its prime right now with red fruit, chocolate and spice. The finish is lingering and velvety. A great bottle of wine from one of my favorite wineries.
