July 15, 2023 - Jessie, Carol, Adam and I drank these six wines at R Kitchen and shared them with the chefs:
2014 Vina Olabarri Rioja Gran Reserva
2014 Trinchero Petit Sirah, Napa, Atlas Peak
2018 Catena Zapata Malbec-Wonderful nose, nice taste and mouthfeel, and good finish
2018 Sapphire Cab Sauv, Napa, Octavo Vineyard
2018 Crane El Coco Red Blend
    2021 Etude Pinot from Sonoma
Top three: 2014 Trinchero Petit Sirah, 2018 Sapphire Napa Cab Sauv, and Crane El Coco Red blend, closely followed by Vina Olabarri Rioja Gran Reserva.

December 25, 2022 - Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of deep ruby colour, with narrow fading rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit of blackberry and prune, red fruit of plum, animal notes of meaty, sweet spice of anise, oak notes of smoke, floral notes of violet. The wine is developing.
Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and silky texture, medium (+) alcohol and medium body, with medium (+) intensity flavours of black fruit of blackberry, red fruit of plum, oak notes of toast, floral notes of violet, dairy notes of cream. The wine has a medium (+) finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Mendoza Malbec with an intense nose showing good complexity, with plenty of black fruit and plum, meaty and nice sweet spice, smoky and having violet aromas. On the palate it is powerful but elegant, having ripe silky tannin and good concentration of flavours, with a fairly long finish. It is ready to drink now but can benefit from further ageing of another 3-5 years.
