November 18, 2022 - Tasted at the JS wine tasting in Hong Kong. This BdM is full-bodied, dense, complex, yet polished. A good balance of bright red fruit, sour cherry, plum, and minerality. Among the 2016 releases tasted at the event I thought that this wine was noteworthy for the immense length, structure, power and complexity. Truly a favorite and heavyweight of the immense 2016 vintage. I look forward to drinking more of this bottle in the years to come!

September 11, 2022 - Medium-deep reddish garnet in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, anise, blueberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, herbs, spices, minerals & a hint of balsamic & cedar notes in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, rich & plush, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, mulberries & plums with spices, coffee, herbs & minerals. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing (90+ min.) but has the fruit & structure to continue development from further aging at which time it may merit a higher score (94+).

September 1, 2022 - This was a blind taste next to Salvioni 2016, and it was like being in front of two opposite expressions of Brunello. They just started from the same color, but then at the nose San Polino was hiding itself even after 2+ hours decanting. Still there was clear balsamic smell and powerful red fruits, with hints of soil and tosted coffee. On the palate an intensity that I rarely felt before (and still resonate on my palate the following day), full bodied, high acidity but that was not out of place with all the beautiful tannins it had. The finish was just incredibly neverending. I give this wine 96+, but now that one bottle I bought will rest for a decade at least (even if the feeling is that this one is a wine that can go for even 30 years).
