October 6, 2023 - Presented itself pretty youthful given its age and we all pegged this for a much younger wine. This opened with osmanthus, smoke and popcorn that translated to barley, meyer lemon curd and sage on the palate. At >20+ years of age, this was still vibrant with crispy acidity and lovely ripe yellow fruit.

December 6, 2009 - Paul & Elsa's Anniversary Dinner (Sean & John's private dining experience): White chrysanthemum tea boiled with white jasmine flowers, some white musk and slightly smoky. Lightly butter pan fried mushrooms and popcorn caramel. This has good butter bread nuances lifted by delicious lemon mineral acidity. Lovely wine that is beautifully fresh and vibrant. Long finish.

December 5, 2009 - Bramble Dinner (Oak Avenue, Singapore): Double decanted and left in a bottle for several hours, this was even better than the last bottle - a really good Grand Cru effort all round. Superb nose showed complex notes of perfumed flowers, chrysanthemum tea, butter, rock sugar and fresh sweet lemons along with deep toasty accents and smoky gunflint. Entrancing. Palate was excellent too. Rich ad deep, with creamy, buttery Montrachet mushroom scents and brioche, along with white fruits apples and kumquats, all balanced out by vibrant acidity. Great balance at that. Fantastic finish was super long and smooth, with deep rich flavours and little reams of smoke. Still a bit primary on the mid-palate, but drinking beautifully nonetheless. And that finish - wow.

September 1, 2009 - Winekakis' Dinner at Asia Grand (Asia Grand, Odeon Towers): This was lovely on the day, just edging out a shyer 2000 Marc Colin Montrachet. Super expressive, playful nose. Truffles, earth, forest fern, some sea-shell minerality, ripe lemons, a dusting of vanilla, tons of honey and really interesting chrysanthemum notes. The palate took off where the nose left off - with a sticky Grand Cru mouthfeel with lots of chrysanthemum flavours melded with pear and other white fruits, a touch of smoke and white button mushrooms. Lovely complexity, lots of lush power, yet super integrated and treading a lovely balance between freshness and weight. Finish was long and delicious, and very interesting. A whiff of smokiness linger for awhile as the fruits receded in the mouth, and then the wine just took off again on a totally different gear with biscuity, breadfruit and potato notes. I think the Monty is just that bit classier and more noble, but this was just yummier and a lot more fun to drink at the moment.
