December 1, 2021 - Return to Piemonte!; 11/25/2021-12/4/2021 (Castello di Sinio, Alba, other various locations): Really liked this wine. It has a weightless ness to it that is very compelling. Lots of structure. Lots of elegance. This is red fruits and pretty and just power but bright but light and I appreciate any wine that can make that combination work. Drinking quite nicely. Vines are around 25 years old so a bit less complex than the ‘flagship’ barbaresco, but I’d certainly see myself ordering this in the future.

March 9, 2021 - 20yr old vines on the young side for Barbar? Some plushness early with gamey tannin. Red fruits grow progressively and do a good job of taking on the tannin. This is VG and I have high hopes for the future.

December 23, 2020 - Bottle bought at cellar. Tasted over 2 days. Apparently 2017 was not a very good vintage for Cigliuti as they were hit by hail. However, this is a pretty good wine.

Deep garnet. Nose of strawberries. Very strong and ripe. Plus some liquorice and solvent underneath. Herbs not flowers, vermouth herbs. Same solvent on the palate. The liquorice turns out to be sweet liquorice, very pleasant, some mentol. Mid-to-heavier weight on the palate. In terms of weight, not too dissimilar from Paitin. Conspicuous acidity. Long after-taste of tobacco, tea leaves and dried herbs. Tannins need some time to develop. Not bad at all, however I have the impression that the hand of the winemaker domesticated quite a bit this wine. I have the impression that this wine (at least at this point) fails to deliver a clear perspective of the fruit of Bricco di Neive. And there are not many around. I have to revisit Dante Rivetti in order to see if I can understand more about this cru.

The ripeness of the fruit plus the acidity is very characteristic of 2017. I had the same sensory experience with Busso San Stunet and Giordano Cavanna.
