Community Tasting Notes 2

November 1, 2023 - 92 points today, but will warrant a higher score in the future. In typical Corton style, this needs to lay down for another 10+ years. Deep ruby, concentrated fruit that is a tightly wound ball of energy right now.

August 18, 2021 - The Grand Cru site Les Bressandes is located exactly in the middle of the Corton hill below Clos du Roi and Les Renardes. Together with Clos du Roi, it is considered the best Grand Cru site on the Corton hill. The 1.12 hectares are divided into three plots, and the soil is characterized by bajocium and Oxford limestone with pebbles, clay and a high iron content. The Corton-Bressandes comes from vines that are on average 35 years old. The wine was fermented spontaneously in wood cuve with 100% whole grapes, then gravity fed into barriques and tonneaux with a small amount of new wood. This was followed by about 14 months of aging without further agitation. Bottling was mostly straight from the barrel with minimal sulfur.

The 2019 Corton-Bressandes is in line with recent great vintages. Already on the nose, the wine strikes a wonderful balance between power and lightness, finesse and down-to-earthness. It opens with a concentrated and complex melange of violet flowers, rose petals, concentrated notes of cherries and raspberries, cranberries and plums with a touch of moss, underbrush, foliage and cool lime around a sweet core.

On the palate, the Grand Cru is fascinatingly supple and charming. It has a power that is already flashing, but largely still dormant in the depths of the wine. Up front it offers a very fine texture and fleshy bite with firm acidity, but in the background the tart and herbal notes from the raps, laurel, underbrush, tobacco and tart chocolate become increasingly evident and mingle with the fruit to create a very complex finish that leaves you very much wanting more, but unfortunately fizzles out a bit too quickly, which is a bit disappointing after the brilliant opening.
