April 12, 2024 - Tried on recommendation. A delicate nose with some salinity and mineral on it…clay makes sense. On the palate it’s effortlessly light, silky and creamy in texture. Has the Volnay perfume - orange blossoms, kirsch. Wish I could appreciate and describe the aromas more but just getting over a head cold.

    June 12, 2021 - Wine information
Volnay vineyards are located between Monthélie and Meursault in the southwest and Pommard in the northeast. There are 98.37 hectares of Volnay Village and 114.9 hectares of Volnay Premier Cru, of which the Les Santenots site alone covers 29.07 hectares. The special thing about Les Santenots vineyard, first mentioned in 1218, is that it is actually located entirely in the Meursault district, but the red wines are called Volnay because there can be no red Meursault. Les Santenots has a high clay content, which makes the red wines a bit more powerful and richer in texture. However, the wines always retain the fine tannin of a Volnay.

Rémi Jobard fermented the wine spontaneously with 80% whole grapes. Like his Chardonnays, his Pinots age in Stockinger barrels and tonneaux.

    Color
    transparent, bright ruby red

    Nose
Already the color, but even more so the fragrance of Les Santenots are almost archetypal for a Volnay and thus clearly distinguish themselves from the Monthélie from the same house. From the beginning, the Volnay is always the lighter, more perfumed and red berry wine of the two. It takes you by the hand from the first moment and you have no problems getting involved with it. The Volnay exudes aromas of ripe red currants combined with violets and rose petals, juicy cherries and a hint of vanilla from the wood, which together achieve an almost creamy character. At the same time, there is a cool vein that suggests tension and freshness.

    Palate
In fact, the Volnay brings the creamy, the red berry and the freshness together quite beautifully on the palate. The fruit seems absolutely young and juicy. The wine is just full on fruit, and if you like that, now is the time to enjoy this Volnay, especially since the tannin already seems decidedly silky. But there is much more to this Premier Cru. There is the very precise use of wood, which gives the wine a very good structure. And there is a cool stoniness and a ripe but lively and carrying acidity that promises good potential.
