Community Tasting Notes 5

October 14, 2023 - Good pop, composite cork. Thin color in glass. Reminds me color wise of Michigan pinot. Tart from acid, and bright too. First wave legs fast, second medium. Strong sensation sides of tongue, like cherry. Swished in mouth and brighter still, and still seems thin in fruit but acid sharp. Acidity is not the star here and gives a juicy sensation.
Acidity was not good and upset my stomach. Not my kind of wine, at least not this version of nero mascalese. Not recommended, and remainder consigned to cooking wine.

August 8, 2022 - Estate History: The Tenuta di Fessina winery is the work of Silvia
Maestrelli who moved from Milan to Sicily in 2006. She fell in love with
Etna and the wines there and began the hard work of becoming one of the
first women to open a winery on the volcano. Being a pioneer wasn’t
enough for Silvia, she also wanted to protect the history and culture of Mt.
Etna, utilizing old vines, ancient techniques and crafting uniquely feminine
wines from the vibrant, volcanic soils.
Varietals: Nerello Mascalese 90%, Nerello Cappuccio 8%, Minnella &
    Carricante 2%
    Tasting notes: Color: light ruby
Scent: wild berries, coriander, cloves, pimento, pink pepper
Taste: austere and soft tannins. Round and spicy, Erse tells an old story
about Etna winemaking, where for hundred years the red grapes have
been mixed with the white ones, a marriage between indigenous varieties.
A picture of our melting pot vineyard where tastes and roots are melted
    together, giving a feminine complexity
    Vineyard Surface: 15 acres
    Age of the vineyard: 1950
    Altitude: 2300 ft SOIL.
    Harvest: October
Vinification: soft de-stemming and crushing with rollers after a careful selection of the grapes in the vineyard
and on the sorting belt in the cellar
Fermentation: fermentation with controlled temperature maceration in stainless steel tanks.
Pre maceration on the skins:: 6 to 9 days of maceration depending on the vintages, fermentation
temperatures between 73 and 79°F to extract color and perfumes
Aging: aging in bottle for at least one year

May 4, 2021 - At first I wasn’t sure. After decant was a bit less strong. We drink mainly Tuscan,so this was a different experience
My wife loved it. She has great taste.
    Will definitely buy more

May 1, 2021 - Jeremy's note nails it. Only thing to add is with a decant, the reductive notes disappear and the fruit becomes more prominent. Quite enjoyable with food or on its own.

February 1, 2021 - A touch of meaty reduction coupled with smoky mineral and wild berry notes. There is a nice core of sweet fruit underpinned by gravelly tannins in the mouth. It is fresh, with a splash of balsamic lift to the finish.
