February 22, 2015 - If you've still got this, you better drink it up and/or plan to use it for cooking! A deep, non-opaque garnet leading out to thinned, tawny edges, with many long legs. The nose is of almond paste, violets and smoke. The palate is medium-bodied, obviously oxidized, and devoid of any fruits but with a strong tobacco and pruny persona. Ironically, this just might pair well with tonight's spicy pork spareribs, but I would rather have consumed earlier. My first clearly over-the-hill bottle in quite some time. Will save remainder for braised beef shortribs, which should be quite tasty.

September 7, 2009 - Good dark fruit and smoke with a silky texture on the finish...very simple but yummy

February 28, 2009 - A medium-dark garnet in the glass, the nose is captured in the label description about as good as you'll find: "...violets, smoke and spice, followed by ripe plum and cherry flavors..." This is exactly what I experienced, with the emphasis on smokiness. This has a slightly quirky flavor profile that, while obviously very well made, is not delicious. We paired it with chicken marsala, and it went quite well. I think some pork will be better.
