Community Tasting Notes 33

April 26, 2024 - Blind tasting: Bordeaux vs CA vs WA

    Came in Third of three

    1 hour open

Nose is rich, dark, slightly high toned, floral violet notes, acetone notes.

Palate starts rich but goes off the tart end quite a bit. Maybe this bottle is off.
Finishes a little tart and dry.

April 18, 2024 - Received as a gift, coravin'd a glass 2 separate evenings before pulling the cork tonight. Raspberries, fig jam and barrique on the nose.

While the tannins aren't as evident as the first time I cv'd a glass, the wine itself is well balanced and an easy quaff. This is a solid high-production wine thats reasonable by Napa standards.

April 16, 2024 - Coravan'd a decent-sized glass. Reddish black berries on the nose along with some cedar. Well-balanced across the palate and easy to drink, this stood up much better to this evenings grilled tenderloin roast than the Ashes and Diamonds red blend I also sampled.

Although a gift, based on the prices I've seen this is a decent QPR.

April 16, 2024 - Pretty tasty and fun, with a lot of rich black fruit and some baking spice. Plenty of structure without being coarse, but it's sometimes a little goofy, with slightly overripe fruit. I really liked the intensity and saturation (there were little spikes of alcohol heat, but could be worse.)

That said, there was one issue holding back from a higher score, which was something ALMOST resembling the beginning of oxidization- an ever-so-faint but present sort of apple tone that one might find in a much older wine. Confusing, and not very welcome. I'm not the first commenter to note this (although I liked it better than them, overall); I'd say drink this on the very early side, just to be safe? Thankfully it was mostly sound and delicious- might not age as intended.

April 2, 2024 - Nose of red and blue fruit hints of spice

Palate shows nice fruit with decent complexity

Served with pork ribs seasoned with a spicy sweet sauce and worked well

    Excellent QPR at $15 for a 375
