June 13, 2022 - The nose here is something else: the freshest raspberries and strawberries, mixed with tones of spicy red pepper, black pepper, white pepper, rose petals, cherry blossoms, even some orange peel, along with anise and sage – wow. Structured well with dusty, mid-strength tannins and crisp acidity, with tart currant and raspberry – so tangy and alive. Roses, paprika, clay, black pepper, minerals and graphite, this has so much going on for it. The mouthfeel is perfectly balanced. I’d love to see this in three or four years, as this got so much better on day two.

June 26, 2021 - 2 hour decant. violet and plum nose. Classic opaque Hardy color. This is so good, fruit punch in a good way, vibrancy, acid, tannins working nice. Always a favorite in Hardy’s lineup.

May 8, 2021 - 2019 very suave/elegant vintage for the D&R Shake Ridge Ranch. A little shy on opening on night 1, after a couple of hours of air the wine showed nice red fruit, some cinnamon spice from the stems, and fine grained tannin. On night 2 the aromas really came out to play. More approachable than, say, the rougher Enz from this vintage, but not nearly as ebullient/bright as the Especial, Barbera, or Zin. There was still some structure from the tannin, and the wine came off as medium bodied on the palate. It put me in mind of a Corison Cab or an early 90s Ridge Geyserville. Stood up nicely to Ropa Vieja.
