Community Tasting Notes 11

March 30, 2022 - From a case bought at the winery on release. Semi-transparent black-red ruby but somewhat mulled colour. Nose is lifted, high acidity mulberry with some deeper tones in the background. Palate is sharp, somewhat fruit-faded with the acidity now poking too much to the fore. Will still be good if drank with fatty lamb but otherwise on a downward path of ‘drink up’. Still love these wines. Fine quality wine-making! 88 on 29 March but another bottle on 30 March was much better with more fruit, depth and nice spice - an easy 90 pts but still ‘drink up’.

February 8, 2020 - Transparent and brightly jewelled lambs’ blood colour. Nose is attractive lightly scented coffee grounds, milk chocolate and strawberries. Palate is quite tart and rather thin wild strawberries and a bit of woodland undergrowth but with the acid starting to poke through a bit too much. Not much length or resonance on the finish but this is a perfectly acceptable 15 year-old light and elegant lunchtime wine from a great Central Otago producer.

March 3, 2012 - Slightly controversial wine when drunk recently with a friend. My comments suggested a fully mature savory wine with notes of barnyard and freshly turned earth overlaying the cherry fruit notes. Light brown tinge to the wine suggests it is nearing the end of its life but palate was still juicy with fresh acidity and herbal savory elements intertwined with sour cherry/berry and a super fine dusty and dry finish. Time to drink up me thinks

October 22, 2011 - Quite different to 2,5 years ago - my conclusion is that the previous bottle was indeed flawed. Light red/brown colour, mostly berries and some earth with medium body and a medium long finish. Quite enjoyable for a PN with good balance.
