May 11, 2024 - Like the last reviewer, I was very impressed with this wine: "super solid" he said. I'm especially impressed--amazed, even--this morning realizing that whoever brought it to last night's potluck tasting of Rhone varietals probably only paid about $10 for it. Flavors were on point, it has definition and structure, and it's not the Aussie sugarbomb one expects at this price point. Well done, Yalumba, well done!

July 29, 2023 - Same as my last note. Super, super solid for $12 wine. Nice spiced plum, red licorice, and some real syrah character with a bit of olive brine, ash, and other savory goodness. Feels very "real". Solid acidity and fruit on the palate too, good structure, a bit clipped in the finish- in the end it's not a super-vibrant wine, but it's definitely multifaceted and the umami aspect is really well-integrated. I wouldn't pay much more than $15, but up to that price, it's a fantastic buy and a fun alternative to a nice Cotes du Rhone.

June 6, 2023 - This was *incredibly* lovely for sub-$15 wine, immediately delicious, and what it might lack in power or nuance it makes up for by feeling really genuine, and surprisingly complex. On both the nose and palate, it showed great balance between soft, simple, decently perfumed dark plum/cherry fruit and slightly savory, meaty, olive goodness that felt shockingly present and integrated for such an entry-level syrah. It doesn't have a lot of staying power/electricity, and the finish is a bit clipped, but it still has a really pretty profile. Far better than the "Scribbler" Cab Sauv of theirs I tried last year. Edited to add: also much better than the Y Series Shiraz (non viognier version.)

October 15, 2022 - Cherry and raspberry. Some spice and dried herbs. Not too much more you can ask for at the price. Another year, another consintant QPR.

April 20, 2022 - ripe red/dark fruits, mild white pepper and spices, smooth, round, light/m- body. light tannins, medium acidity, syrah is well balanced with small portion of Viognier. easy drinking, a good quaffer for everyday.

    Ap 5/5, Ar 11/15, Palate 14/20, Overall 2+2/10
    Total 84/100
