December 17, 2021 - Not entirely clean on the nose or palate, a bit funky, not the best bottle. Showing the edgy acidity of the vintage with good length and complexity. Never faded over 2 hours lunch, so no real hurry to consume this.

December 17, 2021 - Echezeaux theme lunch at ITSPD. Pop and drank over 2 hours. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, garnet colour. Thin legs.
Nose medium+ intensity, not a clean bottle, with significant earthen funk which I am actually quite partial to. Never fully blows off but evolves into decayed savoury earth and weather stones minerality. Dried red fruits – sour red cherries. Developed.
On the palate, dry, tart high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), tannins felt resolved though it seems to put on more structure with more air. Medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of savoury sous bois earth, weathered minerals, sour red cherries, deep red plums. Medium+ finish only though.
Tart acidity of 1996 apparent. Good, but not a great Echezeaux. Based on this bottle, feels more like a drink up than keep.
    Was a Root day though.

July 11, 2019 - Best showing form the case, was able to hang in there with ‘96 DRC Grands Echezeaux mostly. WS prices are at around £900/b, wow, a 30 bagger.

October 9, 2018 - Nose has bright red cherry fruit, but also a little tartness. Fifth Engel in 72 hours and unfortunately my least favourite, preferred the last ‘96 Engel I had which was a Clos Vougeot. Palate expands over time and gains more weighty fruit to stand up to the considerable acid. I think the ‘99 Arnoux RSV in the next glass offered a better showing.

March 6, 2018 - Bottle #0977. Best showing from a case bought during EP. Lightly perfumed and clean nose. Still quite a fair bit of tannins, lively acidity of the vintage with a touch warmth at finish. ABV 13.5%. Dense and long finish, should continue to evolve for years.
