December 23, 2023 - Dark nose has softened from the black hole when double decanted 5hrs ago when blue and blackberry completely dominated. I have to say I REALLY enjoyed this during the first 1.5-3 hrs when it's depth and intrigue was just beginning to reveal itself, unfolding new layers at every turn.

Don't get me wrong – this is doing just fine at the five hour mark and similar to Shafer HSS, you can see that while this shows a great ability to age, it sings surprisingly well right out of the gate. While I have to imagine this wine has long since sold out, I'm in for more if I can find any in the morning!

September 25, 2023 - Mistakenly thought I had a 2018 left but it was 2019. Pulled for Eagles game and was firing on cylinders. One of my favorite QPRs

July 29, 2022 - In Montauk for a long weekend. Had on the hotel deck prior to dinner at Roberta's. Similar notes as my last 2. This is great juice and I can't stop opening these.

June 29, 2022 - Served alongside a 2015 OG. Paired with American Wagyu strip. No decanter so just poured into glass approx 1 hour ahead of time. Initially more open and robust than the OG but then the OG settled in and pulled ahead. Both very good but didn't reach the outstanding category I was hoping for, at least in the OG. That said my palate was a bit shot from too many wines this vacation week. This had nice fruit but was missing that touch of blackberry I really like. Dark currant, plum mostly. Tannins pretty smooth for so young. Probably best to wait a bit on this but no harm opening now.

May 14, 2022 - Curious how the 2019 Fortuna cab compares to their 2019 Haze cab so decided to taste them side by side. Somewhat similar profiles which isn’t a surprise since both are mostly derived from the Fortuna Vineyard. Purple fruit - blackberry, currants, dark cherry, and some blueberry and plum. Smooth mid-palate with a nice purity and solid depth/concentration. Nice rich flavors of dark berries, some spice, cassis, and cocoa. Decent finish but not overly long nor deep. Decanted both for two hours and drank over a couple more. Improved a little with time but drinking well after the decant despite their youth. Both were quite good even at this really youthful stage but I would give a slight edge to the Haze - I tend to prefer how the 100% cab finishes in comparison to the Fortuna which has some petit verdot. Nonetheless, a nice vintage of this wine. No surprise of the 95 to 98 barrel sample review from Dunnuck. In my opinion, 95 for the Haze and 94 for the Fortuna.
