November 5, 2023 - Tomato leaf on the nose. Intense fruit, with red cherries and blackcurrants, then some green bell peppers and spice, finishing long with tangy red berries.

February 18, 2023 - I have not had this Wien for a few years, last time was in Chile. Not available in the SAQ, however was in the LCBO so picked up a bottle. This is probably my favourite Montes Alpha bottling, saying that they are all pretty solid, and punch way above their price point. Aromas of dark plum, fig, dark cherries, nutmeg, cayenne spices, black pepper and bay leaf. The palate was medium bodied with lush dark fruit, waves of cacao, heaps of spice (maybe a little too much?) and dried herbs. The spiciness of the wine feels a little overpowering and this is more of an oak impact vs an Alcohol (14.5%). The mid palate is velvety yet pretty spicy. I feel this needs another couple of years to pull everything together, the oak component with Montes is always on the limit. Taste the Montes Folly which is just too much, this is limit, however I will give it benefit of the doubt. This will probably integrate in 4-5 years.
