  April 9, 2020 - What a sleeping beauty! This wine was a little controversial when it first hit the market: shortly after release Robert Parker, still in his ascendancy, went all out and scored this wine a mid-high 90-something at a time when he was giving out ALMOST NO SCORES ABOVE 90! (today? rotflmao) He was both lauded and roundly criticized and every time his critics (and they were growing) had an opportunity to taste a bottle they would yell and scream and shout about how he missed this one and should have awarded it an 83 not a 93! Anyway, something like that. In time the wine certainly went through a difficult phase and even Parker during this "lull" admitted that perhaps he had goofed on this one and if he had it to over again he would take the score back. So much for that story huh? Sure, the wine went to sleep for a while but when it awoke, wow what a thing of beauty.
  
  Light/medium weight, perfectly balanced, youngish berry fruit with a slight brown rim around the edges. Not savory/garrigue at all, but much more berry floral. Clean, long almost (but not quite) sweet finish.
  
  Worth the wait? Well, after nearly 37 years probably not, but on the other hand, it was great tasting and not a vinegar barrel contribution!

  May 4, 2017 - Geoff Kelly's Guigal Retrospective (Regional Wines & Spirits, Wellington, New Zealand): Despite over 30 years in the bottle, this wine is still a strong garnet colour, with still much of its wildflower garrigue boquet intact. A lovely full body of savoury and meaty flavours, with leather, old books, and candied peel. Truly extraordinary.

  May 25, 2012 - Had this at Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa. Was a bit apprehensive about ordering a 29 year old bottle of Gigondas, but it was a bargain at only $50 and potentially a good pairing with the Filet Mignon. Showed no signs of its age at all. Nice translucent crimson color, with no noticible bricking. Classic Rhone nose of plums, vanilla and spice. Very intense on the palate with a bracing acidity, but plenty of dark, tangy fruit to go along with it. Rock solid, yet very refined and elegant. Showed amazingly well for a wine its age.
