Community Tasting Notes 5

April 27, 2024 - After a 5-hour decant: somewhat thin, and with a short finish. Time may improve these, but so far, they have been disappointing, given the cost.

March 3, 2024 - Classic. Aromas of bacon, rose. Blackberry, kalamata, savory herbs. Long finish. Enjoy.

August 27, 2023 - (Tasted after a 3-hour decant)....We had this with ribeye steaks and tomatoes stuffed with bacon risotto. My wife thought it fabulous...for my palate, the oak is still a bit proud, and the tannins are just a little stiff, relative to the other components. I don't think I could have drunk it on its own, but it worked well with a rich ribeye. There were good aromas of chocolate, vanilla, black cherry, and olive; these followed on the palate, although more subtly. Alcohol was only 13%, which is nice.

If you have this one, I'd suggest waiting 2 or 3 years to open it, which is what I plan to do with the remaining bottles.

The cost of this bottle, with shipping, was $113. It was a good wine but I'm not sure it was worth the tariff at this stage; maybe after a couple of years of aging, it will show itself with more distinction.

July 11, 2023 - Big, funky and bold. Still young but a beautiful wine.

March 3, 2023 - [Tasted at a wine dinner I organized and led on 2/28. Unfortunately, my obligations at the dinner made it impossible to take the sort of detailed notes I would normally do.] Decanted for about 2 hours before serving. This wine is spectacular--unbelievably intense, but still light on its feet. Flamboyant. Ideally I'd give this maybe 3 more years in the cellar (and then wouldn't bother decanting), but even now this is just obviously a stunning and magnificent wine.
