July 21, 2013 - I'm in the habit of drinking these Jean Baptiste Kabinetts after some age. The dollar risk is low and they develop impressive complexity in a reasonable time. This bottle reminds me a little of the 2004, tho exceeding it with fruit/acid balance, I think, with each having 6-7 years from vintage. The 2004 had more pungent, but enjoyable, petrol minerality on the nose. The 2003 was less powerful or precise than either. Aromatically this presents a searing intensity of lightly briney kelp, fresh white flowers just after a clean spring rain, oily wet stone slate minerality, citrus peel oil and lanolin with a rich back note some might call nutty. Mouth watering salinity, with viscosity and heft of superb ripe mandarin peach acidity gives way to just enough citrus peel dryness or bitterness or structure to tighten up these flavors and balance a long, long lasting finish.

This is now a fabulously delicious wine for this price. On a 0-4 scale, I'd give the fruit 3+/4, acid 3.2/4, tannic structure/bitterness 3.2/4, density & persistence 3.5/4, and overall 3.2/4. To me, this translates to about a 92-93, presently for this wine. I picked up another half case just to share.

October 23, 2011 - Dead simple but I guess that's the style. Looking ok at 5yrs but the fruit appears to be toning down. A small layer of honey and kero is coming through as well. Sugar lends some tropical fruit juicyiness but it does trail off. Glad I opened this now.

June 22, 2011 - lemon, honey, pear dominate this pleasant Riesling; minerality and not much acidity round off the palate. It was perfect for the first Day of Summer.

February 21, 2011 - Color: pale yellow and thin, with a few bubbles
    Nose: smells like lemon pepper
Taste: lemon flavored, but almost in a fake sweet and sour mixer style lemon and not so much a fresh lemon, good spicy finish with an indian food type spice profile

October 7, 2010 - Petrol rearing its ugly head here, in far too grand a fashion. Nose is dominated by petrol notes, with a hint of stone fruit peaking out underneath. In the mouth, oily texture only seems to bring out more of the petrol on the palate. The acidity is reserved, leaving the wine feeling a bit flabby. Disappointing. B-
