    March 27, 2024 - revisiting this eighteen months later…

fairly similar in the nose and mouth as before:
"strong smokey mineral whiff in the nose that dissipates enough to let the perfume thru: rose petals, blood orange, sous-bois and wisps of clove enhance the red cherry and pomegranate fruit notes. medium bodied in the mouth, it has a decidedly savoury character with green herbal notes mixing in with the fairly rich red and black fruit and spicy accents; noticeable acidity and polished tannins are present but less prominent than a mineral vein that carries thru to a nice long finish."

there is evidence of development in hints of an umami vein.

while drinkable now with good aeration, i would give this another three years minimum to better display its complexity.

August 19, 2023 - Pinot Tasting and Dinner at the Tates: Nose: Stronger red fruit
Palate: a little heat; shorter finisher. It feels a bit early
    14.5ABV

Went back later in the night and the heat blew off. It settled down and was getting better. Good potential but needs more time.

March 5, 2023 - World of Pinot Noir - 3/5/23 - quick impressions: Ample ripeness, leaning on black cherry and fig, with classic Calera muscular minerality along with mushroom/soil, hibiscus and spices. Refined and polished, lifted and elegant through the finish. Very nice.

November 10, 2022 - Mount Harlan Estate tasting at Calera (Hollister): transluscent ruby colour in the glass with medium body. strong smokey mineral whiff in the nose that dissipates enough to let the perfume thru: rose petals, blood orange, sous-bois and wisps of clove enhance the red cherry and pomegranate fruit notes. medium bodied in the mouth, it has a decidedly savoury character with green herbal notes mixing in with the fairly rich red and black fruit and spicy accents; noticeable acidity and polished tannins are present but less prominent than a mineral vein that carries thru to a nice long finish.

quite young, but with good depth and elegance already. i would give this another couple of years to come together even more… and certainly, this can go at least for a decade. upside potential on the rating.

14.5% AbV; 100% whole cluster; eighteen months in french oak (30% new)

June 30, 2022 - I think I’m a little biased toward this style of pinot. It smells really floral, cherry fruit and even kind of flowery. On the palate it’s quite light and bright. The high alcohol doesn’t make for a big wine surprisingly. It’s has a lot of acidity and medium to medium low tannins. I even tasted a little minerality coming through. Paired with wagyu steaks (the meat could maybe have matched better with a more powerful wine).
