Community Tasting Notes 5

  • mmilgate Likes this wine:

January 12, 2022 - Deep, intense yellow-gold colour with excellent viscosity, a rich, unctuous appearance with an attractive, bright satin finish
The bouquet is rich, deep and complex, revealing over-ripe Gewurztraminer grapes affected by botrytis under ideal conditions, while retaining the aromatic personality of this varietal: honeyed aromas of currants, papaya, mango, kumquat, apricot and baked apple, finishing with a touch of gentle spice.

July 19, 2016 - working with wine 2016 seminar 2 - sweet wines (Hilton Hotel, Sydney): lychee, rose petal over orange marmalade, very slight toast notes, spiced honey…more of the same on the palate, sweet, and perhaps, lacking a little acidity, the wine has a touch of savoury bitterness to the back palate which adds complexity rather than distracting. There is breadth across the mid palate and the finish...well, it just doesn't...constant joy...

February 11, 2015 - Prince - Hugel tasting (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): On the nose aromas of orange marmalade, butter, lychee, rose water, vanilla, cream, sweet spice, honey…more of the same on the palate…rich and unctuous, truly lovely. Superb.

January 24, 2015 - Apples, pears and cinnamon all mixed together on a fantastic nose that jumps from the glass up into your face. The palate is viscous, alcoholic, and full of apples, cinnamon, caramel and lychee. The wine is mouth-coating and there's easily a 30-45 second finish. Wow.

October 28, 2013 - at the winery; wonderfully balanced grapefruit and honey with great intensity and length; mineral and floral notes as well; still young but so easy to sip
