March 4, 2015 - We bought these after watching an episode of Wine Library TV back in 2008, GV really liked it. We bought 10, which was all we could find from suppliers who would ship to PA at the time. Our last bottle. This has matured wonderfully. Still dark purple, just a hint of brick at the edge. Expressive nose, red fruits and spice, smelled like Sangiovese should. Still lots of fruit on the palate, tannins were soft and integrated, nice mouthfeel, long, pleasant finish. Sorry to say good-bye to an old friend, but he performed wonderfully with our risotto and a chicken and kale soup. It was at Piccolo Forno, our favorite Tuscan restaurant, we just opened it and poured. It was just fine out of the bottle, and didn't lose anything as it took on air. Probably has a few years left, if any of you are holding any.

August 21, 2012 - Medium body, dry red cherry. Well balanced acidity and tannins. Good food wine.

January 21, 2012 - Earthy nose containing notes of cocoa powder, soil, dried leaves and espresso along with dark, black fruits. It has good structure and tannin, is round and juicy with berry and cherry flavors. Full and chewy and slightly smoky on the end. Some sour cherry appears at the finish as well.

November 17, 2011 - Not in our wheelhouse. Nose: Funk, medicinal. Mouthfeel was thin. On the palate, very tart cherries with an astringent undertone, Sour Sour Sour, then BOOM! Some gravel and a Short finish. Decanted this for an hour, indulged for 90 minutes, and the bitch wouldn't open up. An old-world disappointment.

A Tasting of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Episode #544, 9/23/2008 (link) 90 points

(Torcalvano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-this is Old world; rustic copper penny meets sundried tomato; very musty, stinky; little poop action; TASTE-solid Old World; big structure; very rustic; high tannins; some nice complexity; nice length; the finish is obnoxiously long; some will be turned off by the tannins; should cellar for 4-5 years; if drinking now, decant for 11-12 hours; so well made; very classic; this wine is ripping; ID-91; GV-90
