November 27, 2010 - Deep purple color. Slight sulfur on the nose but with nice cherry aroma. Flavor complex but the sulfur carries through lightly but in a strangely pleasant way. Long smooth finish.

June 21, 2010 - Very nice. Full bodied, blackberry and blueberry with some white pepper notes on the moderately long finish. Needed about a 1/2 hour in to glass to open and this one showed best right about room temp even though I usually prefer my PN alittle cooler.

March 16, 2010 - In the case of this Pinot they have 9 seperate clonal blocks and from one year to the next they do not know which is going to rise to the top of the chart. So this is treated the same as the"basic" pinot in terms of winemaking but it is the barrel selection that "celebrate the site."

"This wine is darker, has more intensity, and certainly more tannic for California Pinot. This place while it is at the edge of Carneors is way up on a volcanic hillside that is 600 ft. above sea level making in the highest planted vineyard in the Sonoma AVA. It has a powdery red volcanic soil which makes it very different from the Sonoma soil.

"At Wildcat they get at most 2 tons per acre which is very low yields across the valley."

In 2006 the berries were larger than normal and no one understands why which lead to some complications in the vintage. However, the site, here being Wildcat, makes a dramatic difference."

For strong earth and medicinal note to the wine, which I have gotten from previous vintages. Palate has a soft entry with a harder tannic middle that rides through the wine. My guess would be this is the site showing itself off in the wine. Lengthy, harder finish expressing again a higher tannin feel. I have always wondered how long these wines will age and what thier character will be like with age. They are excepetionally well built but I can't quite bring myself to love them. Maybe with age as I have some 2004s in the cellar.

February 17, 2010 - Strongly reminding my of a poopy diaper right now. Maybe some raspberries in there. Astringent finish.

I feel the need to edit my note a little bit. Six hours in, after having forgotten the bottle and left it open, this was a completely different animal. Yes, the "poopy" or sous bois, or forest floor element was still there. But faded to the background. Much more raspberry, very full perfume, and much more delightful.

December 26, 2009 - Enchanting nose has loads of spice, earth and red cherries. Palate is light-to-medium bodied. Very earth and acid driven with bright fruit playing a nice counterpart but not central role. Lingering finish has earth, leather, spice and notes woven into the bright fruit. A California wine that old world fans would dig.
