March 2, 2012 - It was still pretty good, but getting old. This even had a cork, shows you how old it was. A bit of sediment and brick color. I don't think we can hold wine as we are. Really like more vibrant wines.

August 13, 2011 - Drank from magnum. Good timing on this juice. In a good window. Fruit opened up with some time (needed some air time for sure) and initial chalky finish replaced by smooth finish. Drink it now.

December 19, 2010 - Served from magnum. A love affair gone sour, perhaps literally. We used to love AM's entire lineup. In fact, it was the most prominent winery in our cellar. Rarely would I rate one of their wines below 90. Over the years, however, we fell out of love. Can't tell if their wine-making style changed or our palates did. As with others we've recently uncorked, this wine seemed to have replaced the dark stone fruits we used to love in their Syrahs with very tart cranberries that give the wine a prominent, almost astringent sour note. Makes it tough to match with food, much less drink by itself. Perhaps we simply drank this too young, although a 2004 Hillside Reserve (750 ml) we popped a few months ago had that same characteristic. Medium bodied. Muted nose. Given others' ratings on this wine, maybe I'm being too tough and that we've come to enjoy a different style.
