Community Tasting Notes 10

    February 8, 2024 - I served this in my wine course. Cherry, vanilla, spice cake nose. Medium weight. Ends with a distinct heavy dose of coconut and cacao, presumably from the oak influence.

    January 30, 2024 - Fine QPR for an entry-level Reserva but the preponderance of oak at this stage takes some getting used to. 100% new French oak rather than American. Almost a faint whiff of some volatile acidity.

    On the nose — Dried cranberry intermingled with sweet vanilla, cinnamon, menthol and sawdust from the oak treatment. Just a touch of savory soy sauce notes on the second day.

    The palate shows firm, grainy tannin and a healthy dose of moderate acidity underneath.

    Of the grocery store Riojas I’ve tried at a similar price point, I think this one may slightly win out.

    November 14, 2023 - opaque, dark red, long and thick and slow legs
    yum, fruit
    berries, yummy, oak
    dry, grippy, smooth after 2 days
    medium long

    let it breathe / decant
    save other bottle until 2025 or later

    November 5, 2023 - good QPR under $20. 2-3 hours in decanter. the nose brings blackberry fruit, wet forest floor, very light animal-ish barnyard notes. lush on the palate, bitter chocolate, more dark berries, wisps of tobacco. great balanced tannins that carry through the finish.

    October 14, 2023 - Too much oak right now. Give it a few years!
