May 14, 2024 - easy to drink, not too strong on the pepper note

March 14, 2024 - Dark raspberry, bacon and black pepper aromas, and palate. Fresh, light tannin.

February 22, 2024 - By the glass pour. Dark ruby. Mint and violet nose that is oh so Syrah. Medium weight, lively blue fruit, strong acids, and moderate tannins. Very enjoyable until after one hour in the glass, light cork taint reared its ugly head (which was definitely there despite the protestations of the chief sommelier). Based upon the initial impression, though, this is a terrific young St. Joseph which I would gladly drink and purchase. It was kind of funny to run across a corked wine in New Zealand, where virtually everything we’ve drunk has been under screwcap! Of course it had to be French.

February 15, 2024 - 100% Syrah, 14,5% alc. After being aerated in a carafe for over two hours, it was tasted during a romantic dinner in a sublime Riedel Superleggero Hermitage/Syrah glass and paired with Tournedos Rossini. On the nose, it's an explosion of powerful, flattering tarry aromas of blackcurrant, blackberries, floral potpourri with a hint of violet, subtle tapenade, a bit of raw red meat, all delicately peppered. Wow, it doesn't half move! On the palate, the dense and ripe tannins are coated by the intense gourmand aging so characteristic of Maison Guigal. At this stage, the flavor profile is a little scatterbrained and mixes dark fruits, black olives, espresso, a tiny liquorice and a light peppery background. Additional time in the cellar will allow the silky mouth to acquire more depth and harmony. A beautiful acidic framework refreshes and energizes the aftertaste, however marked by a few catchy tannins. We had a blast with this exuberant teenager, already incredibly accessible with air, so I will definitely buy more. In 5 years it will be even more interesting.

    December 10, 2023 - Pretty interesting.
Of course the wine is young. It have been opend for 5 hours on the first night but was still closed, muted like if flavor were blocked by a wall.
I c’osed ot with vacu vin and it passed 20 hours in the fridg.
The day after it’s a really different wine. The wine feel quite thick and smooth. Delicate red fruit with nice spices notes. Tannins are smooth and even if the wine is not sweet the acidity is not strong.
Really nice wine but wait several years, if not, you will need to wait several hours after opening.
