November 17, 2020 - Pnp, deep murky garnet, nose has wild berries and earth. Dusty tannin on palate, as though time has frozen on this wine that it seemed very primary, oaky, rustic. Maybe it needs more time? Long finish too, hint of hawthorne. Jury is out.

July 18, 2015 - This is a difficult wine to assess and rate as I've never had one quite like this. It's medium light in colour and weight and on initial pouring is lean, austere and no better than an average Hautes-Cote de Beaune (I would score it in the region of 85). After 30 minutes air though things begin to improve. The bouquet opens up with a lovely floral and red berry fragrance and on the palate it's all delicate, light-toned, smooth flavours; a charming wine (the scored is now approaching 89 or 90). But just when you think all is well with the world within 30 minutes of this resurrection volatile acidity begins to encroach and with every passing minute the fruit dries out on the palate and the rating drops back down to the mid-80s. You find yourself urgently drinking up before it gets worse. I am a great fan of de Montille wines and 1999 is a superb vintage, but I have no idea what went wrong here. So to sum up, if this bottle is typical you need to open the bottle and let it breathe for around half an hour then finish the bottle within the next 30 mins. Post Script: Just noticed the review by Jimbomatic below. Couldn't agree more.

December 22, 2013 - nice enough , needed a few hours to de-funk , but when it did the bottled revealed a substantial wine . the fruit and nose were not what they once were but the wine was interesting enough . fairly nice wine .

January 7, 2011 - At home w/ H. Great legs. Strong color. Excellent nose. Lots of earth but plenty of fruit. Terrior nicely expressed in a silky yet earthy palate presence. Very long finish. 5-12-16-6: 89/100.
