Community Tasting Notes 5

January 30, 2024 - Add some spicy, orange rind, flowers, white peach and yellow citrus and you get an idea of the nose. Fresh, citrus filled, forward, and elegantly styled, you can enjoy this on release. Drink from 2022 - 2030.

August 20, 2023 - Popped and poured; no formal notes. As a long-time admirer of Laurence's Cuvée Réservée Rouge, this was my first time trying her Blanc. Admittedly, I have often struggled with white wines from the Rhône as they too often lack the acid I want. This is partly why I haven't made it a priority. However, I've had some very impressionable moments with well-aged Hermitage Blanc so I have remained open minded. Which leads me to this bottle of 2021 Cuvée Reservée Blanc; a blend of mostly Clairette with some
Grenache blanc,
Bourboulenc and a touch of Roussanne. From the very first smell, I was convinced that I had been clearly missing out. Beautifully perfumed with white flowers, cantaloupe, apricot and just a little citrus. This was so fresh, so sexy. It was equally sexy on the palate where all the notes were packaged in the most delightfully silky texture. The finish was long. It should be noted that we paired with rainbow trout, zucchini, summer squash topped with yuzu tobiko. This pairing slapped. Based off this experience, I would drink these now. That's not to say that they will be undrinkable with a few more years of age but I guess, why wait? The freshness is awesome and super compelling right now.

March 17, 2023 - Spicy, local with a good rustic feel. Rich with notes of honey. minerals, some oxidative notes as well, has a grounded local feel. Will improve. 91+ point

September 14, 2022 - French road trip, mainly Rhône valley; 9/4/2022-9/18/2022: From open 75cl at Domaine Pegau tasting room, Châteauneuf du Pape. Closed, neutral scent with a faint hint of unpleasant volatile esters, which didn’t blow off in the glass. Medium-bodied entry reminiscent of a fruit salad made of green apples and underripe melon, some bitterness and an odd, unripe texture; the mid-palate is texturally more attractive, with nice vibrancy, some suppleness (perhaps reflecting the 14% alc. declared), just a hint of fresh water with cucumber slices. Short, compact, dry finish. 36 EUR at cellar door. Surely needs 1-2 years to settle down, but I do wonder how much potential this 2021 has in store. 87-88P(?)

July 11, 2022 - Cool nose with flesh and mineral oil. Has a slightly spiritous vein. Bright and lovely palate with a great lift. A little resin and then tropical green papaya. Good balance and bead. Fun. Juicy and intense as it breathes.
