Community Tasting Notes 5

April 7, 2024 - Served by the glass. Curiously this winery points out Assyrtiko in a 99.9% (?) fermented in French oak barrels and coming from old vines in the Aegean area. Only 13.3 ABV. On the nose mellow aromas of tropical fruits and sweet spices such as vanilla pod and cinnamon stick even ginger stand out. Palate is dry but tasty and citrus at the same time. Good weight and volume but is not fully compensated by the sharp acidity that refreshes the finish. It still has room to develop complexity and depth.

February 1, 2024 - Retail $70(?). Heavy Bottle (740g; 1lb 10.1oz). Under cork. 100% Assyrtiko. Even though I spent my honeymoon on Santorini, I do not drink a ton of Assyrtiko (the white variety most associated with the island) and that is too bad, particularly when I come across a bottle like this one. Yellow, perhaps on the way to golden, with lemon curd and mineral notes on the nose. The palate is fruity, round, and unctuous with a decided sweet feel to it (3.1 g/l of residual sugar). All in all? This is pretty fantastic and makes me want to go back to the black sand beaches of its home.

May 12, 2023 - Oak and Assyrtiko are an anathema for us but here it sort of works as it is soft and just polished the wine to a level but not killing it with heavy oak. A good expression of the noble grape of Greece and a very solid result. Mineral, firm and bright as always . 90

May 3, 2023 - From 50+ year-old vines, this Assyrtiko was fermented and aged in French oak barrels with approximately 6 months on its lees. The medium-high intensity nose reveals citrus, melon, lemon/lime, and herbs with touches of vanilla. It is full-bodied with lovely, flavourful aroma replays plus subtle touches of oak. It has very good, balanced acidity, while also having a nice, chalky textured mouthfeel. Citrusy with subtle oak touches notes linger on the finish, with excellent length. Score: 92+ pts

April 3, 2023 - Full yellow color, fruity nose. Full bodied, round and harmonious wine. Citrus note and vanilla, some exotic spices. Good length. Young and powerful.
