January 5, 2024 - Horribly corked or maderized. Very sad … perfect condition of bottle and cork but the immediately recognizable sickly sweet scent shattered any optimism!

November 5, 2023 - This bottle was fruit forward and dominated by dark fruits. Pleasant but its classic barolo notes were muted and thus lacked a wow moment and an elegant finish.

November 17, 2022 - WCC Barolo and Barbaresco Dinner (The Chef's Table at Cafe Capriccio, Albany, NY): [Double-decanted around 11am.] Dark cherry and licorice nose. Rich, mouth filling, expansive. Wow, that one is singing tonight. Classic powerful Barolo from Serralunga and G. Conterno.
Day 2: Thick, rich, still tannic, but with loads of dark fruit. Hints of coffee. Terrific.

November 7, 2022 - In contrast, the Cascina Francia struck me as still youthful, with deep flavors and perfumes of leather, balsam, wild berry fruit and spicy soil notes. Bright, fresh, and transparent, with a sweetly fruited palate, yet abundant tannins. All in all with a tense, youthful feel. I’d loved this and thought it was terrific.

December 18, 2021 - Stunning - one of best wines drunk ever. Layers of complexity - sweet & sour, balsamic notes. Amazing length and silky texture

(Giacomo Conterno Barolo Cascina Francia) Medium, bricking red color with clear meniscus; beautiful, dried berry, black fruit, graphite and licorice nose; youthful, tart solid plum, tart berry, mineral, graphite and dried berry palate; medium-plus finish

Rockss and Fruit

(Giacomo Conterno Barolo Cascina Francia) Wonderfully floral nose with a touch of that hot rock minerality. The nose kept going in and out. Closing and opening. Great palate filled with primary red fruits allied with great finesse. At this point I was really starting to notice how finesse Conterno's wines were. Juicy, long and resonating finish that gets to every bit of your mouth. Again truly great Barolo with many many years ahead of it.
