October 5, 2016 - I thought this wine would be dead based on reviews. The bottle was properly cellared since we purchased it. Started out awkward, almost flat, but it was also cold and after 2 hours in a decanter it is drinking beautifully. Probably would have been a couple years ago but clearly still has something left in the tank. It is a balanced wine and showing some roundness from oak but is showing more fruit now than it was an hour ago. Pleasantly surprised. Wouldn't hold much longer but definitely not a miss by any means. This is consistent with what we have found with quality made zins as well....when properly cellared the alcohol fades and they hold up better than expected.
