April 17, 2023 - Following from my previous tasting note, I got to retaste this at home afterwards.
    Colour: intense ruby
Nose: medium(+) intensity, tertiary, developing. Black plum, blackberry, blackberry jelly. Cedar, pencil shavings, nutmeg, cinnamon. Balsamic vinegar. Leather and warm earth?
Palate: dry, medium tannins, medium acidity, high alcohol (15%), medium(+) bodied. Medium(+) intensity, medium length finish. Black plum, blackberry, blackberry jelly. Cedar, pencil shavings, nutmeg, cinnamon. Balsamic vinegar. Leather and warm earth? Quite plush and rounded, though the higher alcohol levels are a bit drying, esp. with air.
Conclusions: very good. Can drink now, but suited to further ageing.
    Seal: natural cork.

April 17, 2023 - Lecture: Wine terroirs and mountain geoecology at UniBZ (UniBZ, Bolzano, Italy): Very nice! Already gained some smoothness and aged character. Lots of red plum, blackcurrant, blackberry, and maybe mulberry jam character. Sweet spice and old oak. Plush and smooth tannins, smooth acidity.

December 26, 2022 - The 2019 Brenntal Merlot Riserva is rich and savory, with a woodsy mix of black raspberries, shavings of cedar, sage, and a dusting of cocoa. This floods the palate with silky textures and ripe wild berry fruit underscored by saline minerals as sweet tannins add a tactile sensation toward the close. The 2019 finishes with medium length and lightly structured leaving inner rose and a salty flourish to linger. Enjoyable today but with medium-term cellaring potential as well
