December 3, 2023 - 2020 Merry Edwards Meredith Pinot Noir. Drinks like a 1er Cru Morey St Denis. Paired with Korean BBQ at a friend’s house, a good match to gochuchang short rib and pork. Plenty of red fruit and hoisin though not verging on a typical new world pinot. Soy sauce finish. Smooth though not ethereal and oaky. Very good. 92/100

February 15, 2023 - Danni thought it was gorgeous and just loved it. Its big and oaky and shows it. Young now, to hold.

September 29, 2022 - 2020s from (mostly) California: Dark ruby color. The nose shows a deep core of plums ad black cherries, mixed well with tones of coffee, pepper, violet petals, clay soil, some rhubarb and white pepper – a lot going on. Lively acidity kicks off the palate, structured tannins but they have a suave appeal, supporting juicy black cherries and bright strawberries. The texture and balances are just delightful. Notes of pepper, roses, rhubarb and tobacco add complexity, while these underlying mineral, clay and dusty earth tones add a lovely touch. A pretty, seamless Pinot that will age wonderfully. Give it air or four or five years. Aged 10 months in 54% new French oak.

September 14, 2022 - The darkest nose of the 2020 Merry Edwards pinots, it smells of cherry, plum sauce, blackberry, baking spice, and the faintest whiff of smoke. The thickest palate of the vintage’s pinots, the tannins are lush and chewy, and the acid does it’s part to help the wine strike a good structural balance. The flavor profile includes a really pure trio of blackberry, black plum, and dark cherry. Menthol tobacco and dried herb add variety. Not convinced this has the longevity of previous vintages, I think 2-3 years of aging will see it at its best.
