November 20, 2023 - Two very different ratings so far on CT: a 93 and an 85. Unfortunately both without any further explaining text.
So, what do I think of it? Sure, it's juicy, fruity with mainly mature black fruits, and dark floral, but there is this sugary undertone that is somewhat off putting. I cant but rate this closer to 85 than 93. Somehow this has the potential of being very good, hence the 93 earlier in CT, but only comes out as good, hence the 85.
Turns out nearly all recent vintages of this wine did receive the highest rating in Gambero Rosso, but not this 2020 (2 black bicchiere).
It would be interesting to find some of the GR higher rated vintages or to keep an eye on future releases.
Probably the 2020 harvest planning did not anticipate the early ripening caused by the hot summer in Italy in 2020., resulting in a more than usual sweetness. Just speculating...

October 17, 2023 - Big, aromatic nose with lots of mixed blackfruit to go along with spice and earth notes. Medium bodied (14.5% ABV) with black cherry upfront, becoming more rounded as well as adding more depth through the middle as well as other blackfruit notes. Tart black cherry as well as acidity and tannins come in on the backside. There's good openness through the middle and I didn't find the structural notes on the backside off putting or disjointed. It wasn't tremendously complex, but it did seem to show its fruit well on a frame that suggests it has time for additional improvement in the cellar. (Sarduzzo Enoteca; Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy)

October 20: Tasted again from the same bottle opened on October 17 and preserved under gas since then. Nose was essentially identical except the blackfruit notes seemed perhaps a bit bigger and more aromatically vibrant. Overall profile was very similar to my tasting on Tuesday, but the wine felt more rounded and open through the middle while showing improved balance, particularly on the backside. While this was what I expected, it does tell me that this wine does indeed have some potential for positive evolution. I'll plan to open the first of my bottles in Q2 2024.
