June 26, 2019 - PnP: Opens to an intoxicating note of balsamic ripe plums and cherry compote, oak, pine needles, cedar, spice box, and a bit of high pitched red cherry fruit wafting from the evident heat. The deeply mature dark red fruits are enveloped by the wine's heat but is nicely framed by vanilla oak. Stewed black cherry fruit dominates the palate with a strong acidic verve keeping the wine from falling into flabby-over heated / over-extracted territory. Finishes deep with lingering balsam red fruit on the finish. Probably a bit past prime and won't benefit from further cellaring. Modern Superb Tuscan wines like this are best when they show their muscle. This is like a 40 year old heavyweight still punching away but a bit long in the tooth.
