September 18, 2023 - WSET Teaching Level 3 for Burgundy (Stellenbosch): (Tasted Blind): A mid-crimson colour that is slightly cloudy, possibly unfiltered. An intense, fragrant nose adorned with violet, blackberry, raspberry, white stone fruits, minerals, fresh herbs/white pepper, a smidgeon of earth, and oddly marshmallows! The pepper notes suggest some stem inclusion.
A pure yet soft approach that is highly appealing, the mid-palate is elegant with a salty edge and filled with raspberry coulis, or peach peach melba. There is a spicy quality, pepper again and even a touch of hung game. The feel is sour-edged so a tangy acidity, chewy tannins with a light umami sea kelp note that accentuates the acid. Medium-bodied, the wine is dry, and this rises on the back palate, giving a dry saline feel on its reasonably long finish. I wanted to like it more than I did and perhaps the wine just feel quite in synch yet.

July 8, 2023 - 13% alcohol. Composite cork, reconstituted in the central section with 3 mm discs of natural cork affixed at either end; the wine penetrates the bottom disc. Fairly deep colour for Gamay with substantial thinning at the rim. Served cool initially, but warmed up quickly due to weather conditions.
The nose is both rich and piercing with violet and redcurrant jelly (that does not sound right, gelée de groseille is much more evocative). Equally satisfying in the mouth, managing to combine substantial body with a juicy character. Super mouthfeel.
A very rewarding MàV from a top producer. The match with barbecued rabbit wrapped in smoked bacon was excellent.
