  March 2, 2024 - A light and epiphany type wine that new world cabs can be made in quite light and aromatic expressions (vs rich and opulent and high alcohol). I blind tricked my dad into thinking the Marquis calon segur was the new world option. This is 13.7% and I’m getting strawberry and floral notes of violets, orange blossoms, maybe even roses. A light and sweet yet deep cassis and some blue fruit to compliment the strawberry. Outstanding stuff !!

  January 12, 2024 - After 3 dry weeks, I wanted something exciting to bring me back in, and this delivered. 5 hours in the decanter before the first real pour. Terrific, ripping acidity. Medium body, with bright crunchy fruit, far into the red spectrum, pomegranate, cranberry, redcurrant. Could be mistaken for a mountain zin texturally and with the spicy overtones to the zingy fruit, but with a coolness to the peppery aromatics and precision layering. Cedar, a hint of cassis and mint, a bit of cru Beaujolais-like cherry chapstick, crunchy mineral-tinged dirt, with ultra-fine tannins and a gossamer suaveness on the long, sweet-and-savory finish. Really does not feel like a cab at this stage, especially not Napa cab, although the sweetness and purity of the fruit is possibly a tell-tale that this wine was grown in the CA sunshine. Continues to crescendo over 5 hours. 94-95 for pure deliciousness, but quite a chameleon right now, and I’d love to see where this settles down to in a decade.

  November 30, 2023 - Double decanted with stir about 13 hrs prior. Medium ruby color. Red cassis, plum, earth, herbal notes on the nose. Red cassis, hint of plum, cedar, minerally tobacco on the palate with about 30 sec finish. Very Left Bank at the start and midpalate but quite acidic and almost carbonated spice on the finish, possibly VA? Hopefully a lot more aging will smoothen out that finish. This really wants to identify as a Left Bank wine.

  April 25, 2023 - Opened this to go along side a dry-aged strip that I christened my new grill with. Very mute upon opening and even a few hours air didn’t change much. Hints of some depth and fruit in there Given my last experience with a Beta wine I’m going to track this over the next week.
  
  Day 3: OK. Now we are getting somewhere. From a glass that’s been out for a while with just a bit left: This is loosening up and we are getting some very pure sweet purple-red fruit. Blackberry, plum, raspberry, black currant, maybe some black cherry. Leather, a greenish herbal note. The fruit is very pure and lithe with perfect sweetness. Maybe a touch of mocha. Another pour more closed than the previous but showing a lot of graphite and minerals and dark fruit, crushed rocks and tiny berries. The fruit is very pure. Almost reminds me of Cornas. Palate is very similar -fruit is a little more shy - lots of crushed rocks and minerals. Blueberry and raspberry and black cherry. A little violets. Finish is savory crushed rocks with hints of fruit. I like the way this is heading.
  
  Day 5: This has opened some. It’s still a bit shy but the nose is very pretty with black currant, plums, a touch of cassis, graphite, a bit of licorice, anise, black cherry, powered stones, a hint of violets. The palate is dark and still - not heavy in any way, a bit reticent - graphite, dusty minerals, dark florals, hints of dark fruits. A tart wave of red fruits hits as the finish begins and melds with the minerals and graphite. Smooth fine tannins. Another sip shows a nice savory green note as a backbone. The finish is long with nice grip, maybe a hint of heat. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 5+?/6, Finish - 5+?/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1+?/2 = 16-16.5/20.
