May 9, 2024 - These 19's from Burlotto are so pretty! While this lacks a bit of the elegance and finesse of the Monvigliero, it's still extremely fine and delicious. Tannins are certainly more present and coarse by comparison, but with a little air they mellowed out enough to be very drinkable at this stage. Certainly worth revisiting in 5-10 years, but lovely to drink now too.

November 30, 2023 - Piemonte: Truffles instead of Turkey; 11/23/2023-12/2/2023 (Barolo, Barbaresco, Alto Piemonte and of course Alba): For many people I’ve spoken with this is the under the radar star of the Burlotto show (I think it’s the Classico although I suppose less and less Burlotto is ‘really’ under the radar anymore). Classic style with very bright spots. A bit more intensity than you find in the Classico. Darker fruits. But still so refined and lovely.

November 1, 2023 - E&R's Prequal to 25: Nebbiolo: All pretty, high tones on the nose, with rose hips and some lean green berry fruit present as well. Pretty, but somewhat strange, perhaps due to some of the whole cluster. Very pretty fruit on palate, tastes a bit stemmy, showing some bitter strong tannins. It is tight as nails on the palate... I was certainly expecting some more fruit expression than I got. Bitter, youthful tannins on the finish, but here we get more of the typical high toned fruit of Burlotto. This is incredibly tight and compact right now. 92+, with a strong + if you wait at least 10-15 years.

November 1, 2023 - Prelude 25-an E&R Nebbiolo joint (E&R Wines, Portland OR): The nose is clearly wound up and tight at first. I made sure to leave this alone and come back to it later when it fully opened up into flowing and heady tones of mint, red cherries, strawberries, rose petals, earth notes, spices, roasted herbs, and some sweet tobacco. This is clearly extremely young on the nose, but with a lot of definition at this point. The Full bodied feel is refined, elegant, and youthful with tart, high acidity and silky, high tannins. The tannins really play tricks on you as they absolutely have some grip and taughtness to them, but they aren't as dominant as I would've expected. Regardless, this is without a question a wine that will get much better with age. This is one that when it hits the 12-15 year mark will really start to show its stuff and I hope I come across it then.

November 1, 2023 - E&R Prequel 25 - Mostly older nebbiolo (Portland, OR): This was initially mute, opening up a bit with air but remained odd with almost tropical ripeness - like a tannic, ripe fruit punch. The ripeness of the red fruit here reminded me of grenache. It improved with air but really needs to be left alone for 10 years IMO, strong hold.
DP confirmed that the Acclivi sees some whole cluster and felt the showing was typical. Wow, I guess I just don't open these kinds of bottles young.
