February 23, 2024 - In need of serious cellar time, this was super closed and tough for some 2-3 hours, but eventually showed strawberry, roasted herbs, rose petals, subtle vanilla and a stony minerality on the nose.
So pretty mouthfeel, fine tannins, on point acidity and a very long finish.
Even better than last time, this will be a benchmark Burlotto Barolo in due time.

December 10, 2023 - The Castelletto is a great combination of the power of this Monforte vineyard and the highly finessed Burlotto style.

The nose was nicely perfumed with black berry fruit, sweet spices, orange peel, licorice, and cool herbs. On the palate, the Castelletto is concentrated, medium to full bodied with a lot of tannins, but the tannins are so fine grained that they don’t really get in the way. I found black fruit, dark floral tones, orange peel, and sweet spices.

While not quite as distinctive, I think I prefer the Castelletto and Cannubi a bit over the Monvigliero for their more conventional expression of Nebbiolo.

November 30, 2023 - Piemonte: Truffles instead of Turkey; 11/23/2023-12/2/2023 (Barolo, Barbaresco, Alto Piemonte and of course Alba): The second vintage of this wine which is coming from a Monforte vineyard but Fabio mentioned much of the soil is almost a bit closer to Serralunga style (it is right on the border). It started very quiet and soft and classic and bright but perhaps not quite as expressive as the Acclivi or Classico (I think it was a new bottle that had just been opened). As it opens though there is more of the bright red fruit and a bit more tannins and structure. Very well balanced. A truly great wine.

October 15, 2023 - Top drawer Barolo (Tøyen, Oslo): Double decanted 3 hours prior to serving

Arcetypical Barolo, much darker profile than my previous experience with Burlotto Baroli, though I can't know for sure if it's the vintage or the vineyard, though the latter would be my guess.

Dried strawberry seeds and heather, grapefruit, truffle, clove, sweet soil, saffron and hawthorn make for a very interesting nose.

The palate has blood orange, fine grained tannins with a very long finish infused with wild strawberries. This was a fascinating display of elegant power, with air this became very harmonious and quite special.

This needs time, score is for current drinking, the potential feels substantial here.
