May 10, 2024 - Part of a Ridge night with my wine group at a NYC Steakhouse. We had in order, 2021 Ridge Grenache Blanc Adelaida Vineyard, 2020 Ridge Pinot Noir Corralitos Gali Vineyard, 2020 Ridge Merlot Estate, 2018 Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, 2019 Ridge Zinfandel Boatman Graveyard, and a 375ml bottle of the 2009 Lytton Estate Viogner. We drank the wines in accending order of alcohol. Some in my group thought this was a Pinot masquerading as a Syrah. While it is bigger than many Burgundies, compared to most of the CA Pinots I drink this was very restrained, and it is nice to have a CA Pinot with under 14% alcohol.

December 28, 2023 - I love, love, love the acid in this wine. It has a floral almost rose-like nose with a fantastically peppery mid-palette, and a finish that goes on and on and on. Can’t wait to pair it with Galician stew tonight.

December 27, 2023 - Definitely a richer Pinot, though not a rich Cali style either. Cherry/raspberry fruit with vanilla, earth, smoke, and a bit of minerality. Has a creamy mouthfeel, but pretty bracing acidity. Definitely a bit too young, needs at least a couple (or better 3-5) more years to come together.

July 29, 2023 - The 2019 impressed me but this didn’t meet the same bar. The 2020 has more Ridge characteristics to it, but not much of what wows me in a Pinot Noir. While most Ridge wines are reliable from vintage to vintage, this seems to be on a rollercoaster while they’re hunting for an identity for this wine.

July 23, 2023 - As with all Ridge wines, impeccable balance. More Volnay than California. Decanted for 2 hours. Tart cherry, medium body, medium plus acidity. Needs some time to integrate, back label notes that only 9% new oak was used. 13.9 ABV. If you are looking for a voluptuous RRV style, this is not for you, but if you like finesse, restraint, and pure expression of fruit, this delivers. Would definitely purchase again.
