Community Tasting Notes 7

February 1, 2024 - Initially gave this only ~20 minutes before tasting. At this point it showed some muted cherry aromas, and on the palate it is still tannic with bracing acidity. This was good alongside a grilled steak, but not mind blowing. More oaky vanilla than floral. Improved after about 3 hours in the glass, but still very “New World”.

July 1, 2023 - Pretty tight but giving and clean/mineral with a decant. Wouldn't touch another for a few years.

June 29, 2023 - Really showing at an outstanding level. I had not expected this level of depth for this inexpensive barolo. Nose is medium dark fruit fragrance and a rosy note. The palate really sings with medium body fruit and a strong tarry aspect along with good cutting acid and bracing tannic hit on the downslope. Excellent QPR.

April 2, 2022 - slightly corked or a ton of sous bois. honestly, i agonized over this for a while. in the end, slightly corked won out. abundant cherry fruit and not much else. still primary. i recognized the damage done by the new oak right away. while not overtly oaky, the wine was clearly modern in style and hence a lot of the varietal characteristics were masked or muted. this is what makes this wine drinkable at a younger age as opposed to the traditional style which would take years of aging. the tradeoff is what you get at the end of that aging period. if you don't understand what new oak (primarily barriques) does to a wine, you should make it your business to find out............... if you do understand, then you will pretty much avoid most modern style wines...........enough said.

February 25, 2022 - Nice still young Barolo: strawberry, leather, cherry, tobacco leaf, soft tannins, light body, dry finish.
