January 20, 2024 - In a peak zone with abundant plush fruits that veer into more black cherry which comes across as a bit heavy handed for Volnay. Good Pinot but not my ideal picture of Volnay.

December 31, 2023 - Last had this wine in 2019 and gave it a 92. Was expecting a solid Burgundy on the sumptuous side with noticeable oak. It was a pleasant surprise to drink a perfectly balanced wine with myriad flavors that was elegant on tongue. It was without question the best red of the year and also the best wine of the year. The difference between this bottle and the one in 2019 was stark. This was Outstanding.

December 6, 2023 - My second bottle of this. The nose is just fabulous, black cherries, violets, geranium. In the mouth there’s plenty of black fruit, freshness and very very fine tannins. Delicious.

October 27, 2023 - 2002 Beaune and Volnay Premier Crus (San Francisco): Light ruby center with lighter outer half. Heady ripe berry and spice aromas. Slightly bigger and denser than the Pousse d'Or but this still dances across the palate. More obvious oak, green notes, and tannin than its relative. I found this less finessed and less ready, but others preferred this to the other monopole wine. Nevertheless, very good and potentially better than this if it absorbs the wood.

August 3, 2023 - I was surprised at how young this tasted. Dark sour cherries, cloves, blood. Very fine dry tannins, silly. Took a good 30 minutes to open on the glass and then continued to evolve. Lovely.

(Pousse d'Or Volnay Clos des 60 Ouvrées) Medium cherry-red. A lovely nose, sweet, wide, incisive red cherry with the merest edge of cream. The palate is very well balanced and has real intensity. There's sufficient fat and the tannins are sophisticated. Like quite a number of 02's there's eventually an edge of bitterness in the finish, but it's one of reasonable length with, like nose, a touch of cream. A very nice wine.
